Freedom Wheels
by Paul Raworth Bennett
~ in memory of Bob Rea ~
(July 1961 – August 2019)
I love to ride my freedom wheels
Unbridled joy is how it feels
At once when I begin to roll
It stirs my mind and feeds my soul
It’s not long ‘til I gather speed
Astride my strong chromoly steed
Not many strokes before we fly
And quickly pass the traffic by
To ride my bike is so much fun
When soothed and warmed by golden sun
Or bathed in light from waxing moon
When night-time skies it does illume
And after we’ve rolled on for miles
My joyful heart within me smiles
It’s time to stop and take a rest
Another day, another quest
I love to ride my freedom wheels
Unbridled joy is how it feels
The daily stress, it does unroll
Like magic dust it heals my soul

Paul that was a gorgeous poem that encapsulates cycling so well, Bob would’ve loved this.

Thank you, Noel. I didn’t actually get to know Bob for very long, but he made a positive impact on me from the very first time we met.
